The low down on liposuction complications
As with any surgical procedure there is always going to be a certain level of anxiety over possible complications. With Vaser liposuction treatments you can be confident that there is no need to worry as the risk of complications is so low it’s almost negligible.
In fact, there are a number of reasons for this. Firstly, because only local anaesthetic is used during the procedure, the procedure time is shorter than usual and this lessens the risk of complications. Local anaesthetic is generally a lot safer than general anaesthetic anyway. The use of local anaesthetic also means that recovery time is quicker, and there is less chance of major bruising or swelling.
With other liposuction procedures, because the methods are outdated, there are numerous complications that have been reported: altered skin sensation, seroma, skin induration, skin necrosis and even burns. Luckily for us, technology has advanced and Vaser liposuction treatment is nowhere near as dangerous as other liposuction procedures.
The likelihood of Vaser complications is low
Having said that, there are a few complications which need to be mentioned. Skin irregularities can occur, but are rare. Bleeding and infections are possible as incisions are made in order to insert the probes into the appropriate body area, but again, the likelihood of this happening is low. Bruising is quite normal, though this is to be expected from a surgical procedure and will fade after a few days. The one complication that is the most common is prolonged swelling but this too will subside, though possibly a few weeks later than expected.
One complication, however, that may occur is actually a result of inexperience on the part of the doctor. This is the danger of visceral perforations, which is when the doctor accidentally punctures or damages the internal organs during the procedure. This can occur because often the doctor is not able to have a clear view of the where the probe is in the body and so may touch the organ by mistake. There is a reason Vaser liposuction is considered the safest means of liposuction at the moment, and the very low occurrence of complications is one of them. If you look at the statistics, the percentage of complications occurring is extremely low. What is much higher, on the other hand, is the percentage of both doctors and patients who would recommend a Vaser liposuction treatment.
