It is, indeed, possible to go through liposuction without anaesthesia; however the majority of patients prefer not to be awake at all during the process.  Regardless of what your preferences are, a good liposuction specialist will be able to offer you the right advice.

The first step to overcoming the anaesthesia challenge is to work with a fully qualified medical doctor.  Confidence in the abilities of a doctor increases the feeling of comfort with the entire liposuction process and you will be more at ease regardless of the anaesthesia method chosen.

Why is anaesthesia important?

Anaesthesia is important and necessary for a smooth operation and proper recovery.  The different varieties of anaesthesia do not just provide pain relief and keep you still during the surgery process, they also help control the body’s natural reaction to pain or trauma.

There are several types of anaesthesia, but not all are applicable to liposuction. The types of anaesthesia are local, regional, general and conscious sedation. Liposuction is usually done using either local anaesthesia or general anaesthesia, although the definitive choice is dependent on the preferences of the surgeon and the size of the area being treated.

Local anaesthesia will numb a small area and is most common in smaller lipo procedures.  It is usually offered as a shot or injection, but also be applied to the skin to numb the skin. When having liposuction with local anaesthesia, sedatives like Valium may be administered to you orally or intravenously; the aim being to put you to sleep for the entire procedure.

In liposuction procedures where general anaesthesia is deemed the appropriate move by the surgeon, you will be completely asleep and unaware before the procedure even begins. The anaesthesia can be inhaled as a gas or be injected intravenously as a liquid.

Anaesthesia Risks

Anaesthesia carries high risks. One of them is the risk of allergies as a result of medications being taken by the patient. It doesn’t matter if you’ve undergone anaesthesia safely in the past; the allergies can occur at any time. This why the best liposuction surgeons  endeavour to confirm if you have any underlying conditions like lung, heart or circulatory conditions as well as asthma and general allergies. Any of these can complicate the process.

If you are taking any herbal medications, there is also a risk that the ingredients in the product can interact with the anaesthetic drugs being used. It is important for you to tell your surgeon and anyone else involved in the procedure, about all medications you are taking – including over-the-counter drugs, vitamin supplements and herbal medicines.  Vaser liposuction doesn’t require you to stop all medications, but it is in your best interest to notify the doctor about them all.

Back fat is a common occurrence for most adults.  Fats may appear as bulges or as rolls leading to folds on the back, when the individual is fully dressed.  Vaser liposuction addresses these issues to ensure a better fit, increased confidence, tighten up skin and grants an overall slimmer physique.

Back fat can’t be dealt with by simply using a diet and exercise, which is why Vaser liposuction is the procedure of choice for addressing these problem locations. There are 5 main areas of fat that can be reduced and sculpted using a vaser liposuction procedure.  These include the following:

  1. Buffalo hump: This is the lump of fat located near the neck.
  2. The lumbo-sacral fat pad: This is found above the tailbone.
  3. Posterior waist fat: This is found on the back, just above the hips.
  4. Posterior axillary fat: This is located near the armpit.
  5. Infra-scapular fat: This is the roll of fat that can be seen just under a bra strap.

Vaser liposuction can be used to remove all five types of fat by a qualified surgeon.  During the initial consultations, the surgeon will take a look at the back to determine the best strategy for carrying out the liposuction procedure.

During back Vaser liposuction, only local anaesthetic is used; you will be aware of what is happening but you won’t feel a thing. The local anaesthesia, in conjunction with Vaser liposuction, ensures faster healing and better quality results.

During the actual procedure, all areas of the back are taken into consideration to ensure a consistent and natural appearance after treatment. Additionally, fatty tissue in the back is approached from multiple angles. This approach gives you the most consistent and natural looking results.

At the end of the procedure, a spatula cannula may be used to apply finishing touches to your skin. The spatula cannula is a small precision instrument that will be used to remove all the fat that is located on the underside of the skin layer.  This ensures a smooth contour of the skin, at the end of the process, in addition to the reduction of the overall fat volume.

During back vaser liposuction, a good surgeon will consider a variety of factors specific to your own case. This includes skin elasticity, body proportions and more. These considerations are vital aspects in providing you with a truly personalised experience.

At the end of the back Vaser liposuction experience, you will finally be able to enjoy showing off your body and wear clothing that fits your style without any restrictions or concerns.

For people looking to undergo liposuction to remove body fat, one of the main questions asked is just how much fat they can be allowed to remove.  This is question becomes even more apt when the individual is considerably overweight and trying to achieve fast results.

The amount of fat that can be removed, however, is determined in two ways. With some surgeons 5,000 millilitres or 11 pounds of fat is the maximum for a single procedure. This is the amount that will be removed, irrespective of body weight or fat status. In other cases, the body mass index (BMI) of the patient is used to determine how much fat extraction is safe. The BMI of a patient is a rough estimate of body fat based on height and weight measurements.

However, many surgeons still work with the first method. This is because the BMI method is still deemed too discretionary and could allow room for costly errors.  There is no data or scientific backing for the BMI criteria; which has resulted in many countries being reluctant to pass it into law.  That said, some doctors do work with the BMI recommendation and have achieved plenty of positive results. Others work with the standard method of removing 11 pounds of fat, with just as much success.

The safe amount of fat to remove, therefore, comes down to the doctors conclusions following the different stages of consultation.  During the initial examinations and discussions, doctors look at certain factors to determine what amount of fat can be safely removed.  Some of these factors include:

Procedural spacing

If you’ve had liposuction at any time in the past, the doctor will take a look at the date and style of procedure to be sure your body has had the maximum healing time.  Your procedure will not be safe without adequate checks.

Moderation limits

Liposuction is a procedure that can help individuals become healthy and improve body image. However, extreme, excessive or mega liposuction will not be sanctioned by a qualified surgeon. You may want to go from your current “big” stature to a Beyoncé or Kate Middleton stature overnight. A good surgeon knows not to honour your request, in the interests of your health!

Possible complications

There are many health conditions that could become worse with excess fat removal. These are mostly conditions that affect the organs and general functionality of the body.  In some cases, the conditions will prevent the doctors from carrying out the liposuction process entirely.  This is why a good portion of the diagnostic process is spent on meticulously scanning your medical history.

In conclusion, the exact amount of fat that it is safe to remove from you during a liposuction process can only be determined after proper consultations with a qualified doctor. How they arrive at the conclusion may vary depending on the professional’s experience and their method of working.

Gynecomastia, or ‘man boobs’, is a condition that affects around 15% of adult males in the UK. It is a condition characterised by excess fat in a man’s breast area.   It is often triggered by a reduction in testosterone levels and an increase in oestrogen levels.  Oestrogen controls the female traits of the body and although it is found in most males, it’s usually in drastically reduced levels. When the oestrogen becomes more pronounced, the ‘moobs’, as they are known in some quarters, will appear.

This breast fat is often very difficult to shed. In the majority of cases, it remains unmoved even after a weight loss or diet regime has worked for most other parts of the body.   Gynecomastia is often a source of concern for the individual and this is a leading cause of emotional upset and low self-esteem in middle aged men.  Fortunately, vaser liposuction is one efficient method of tackling this problem.

Liposuction is a procedure best known for its usefulness in targeting stubborn areas of fat that simply won’t go away.

Why Gynecomastia vaser liposuction?

Gynecomastia vaser liposuction consists of minimally invasive treatments that can help adult males achieve the body stature of their dreams without going through the risk and pain associated with major surgery, under general anaesthesia.  It is less invasive than standard liposuction. The procedure allows easy differentiation between fat and important tissues like blood vessels, connective tissues and nerves, which almost completely eradicates the risk of damage to these areas.

With gynecomastia vaser liposuction, the fat around the chest region is liquefied and removed through a gentle suction process.  Since the procedure is less invasive than standard liposuction, patients can be treated on an out-patient basis.

Recovery process

Recovery is quick, allowing patients to return to their standard activities within a short period of time.  Gynecomastia results are often very soft and efforts are made to ensure that the chest region doesn’t look out of sync with the rest of the body.  The majority of gynecomastia vaser liposuction patients get back to work in less than 3 days. However, you will be expected to continue taking mild pain medications for a while, until the healing process is completely finished.

Is there need for additional procedures?

Most cases of gynecomastia vaser liposuction are concluded after the first procedure. The male chest fat and breast tissues are removed permanently, meaning the results are mostly permanent. All of the fat in the region will not be removed though.  A small portion will be left to ensure that your body maintains a synchronised appearance as mentioned above.

The key to the best results is finding a fully qualified liposuction expert that understands how to treat gynecomastia, and use vaser liposuction as a body sculpting exercise rather than just a fat removal process.

Pregnancy is a fascinating period in the life of most women, not to mention the expectant fathers, too. The joy that comes with bringing in a new child is, simply put, beyond imagination. However, away from the smiles and happiness that come from the mini version of you, pregnancy can leave a woman with a body she doesn’t want.

Weight gain is natural and necessary during pregnancy. The real problem, however, is losing the weight after pregnancy.  This is why many women explore weight loss procedures, post-pregnancy.  Vaser liposuction is one of the most effective ways of losing the pregnancy weight. However, since the post-pregnancy stage is physically and mentally tasking, all mothers need to take some careful considerations before getting liposuction.

Overall health

This is the most important thing you should consider before deciding to undergo vaser liposuction. Have you recovered enough?  The best plastic surgeons will not allow you to undergo vaser liposuction if there hasn’t been at least a 6 month gap between the date of delivery and the date of your first consultation. This is of utmost importance, as the body needs this amount of time to get ready for surgery.

Childcare

Liposuction will require few weeks of rest and management to fully recover. How do you intend to take care of your child during those weeks of recovery? Do you have a network of trusted friends and family that can give your child a level of care similar to what you can provide? Bear in mind that taking care of your new born goes beyond feeding and changing of diapers.

Costs

Vaser liposuction has made liposuction affordable for the average individual. However, the cheaper prices on offer today don’t mean you can afford to spend money on the procedure just yet. It is expensive to take care of a baby and at this stage of life, your baby’s needs are more important than your body stature and self-esteem. If the costs of vaser liposuction and taking care of your baby feels difficult for you to combine, you should postpone the procedure.

Although liposuction is an effective way of dealing with the pregnancy weight, it is not something you should jump into without much thought.  If you have made the considerations above and are not convinced that you should opt for liposuction, then here is another, more traditional option…

You can consider going on a diet and working on a regular regime of exercise. Both should be carefully planned by a professional, bearing in mind your situation. You may actually find that the majority of your post-pregnancy weight can be shed much faster than you think, in much less time than waiting for a liposuction treatment maybe.

Vaser liposuction is a medical procedure that leaves prospective candidates worried.  Interestingly, the major cause of concern is not the cost of the procedure or the degree of pain. The procedure is cheaper today than it ever was and the pain factor has never been more manageable.  For many, the main reason why they are stalling on their vaser lipo surgery is that they’re afraid of scarring.

Always explaining to friends and family that you got your scar from a liposuction procedure is not desirable. Declining summer activities because your swimsuit will reveal your scars is even worse. It’s pretty understandable that many people are worried about the resulting scars. After all, one of the reasons for going through with vaser liposuction is to achieve a body you will be proud to show off.

What is the reality?

The reality is that vaser liposuction, just like most forms of liposuction involves making an incision on the affected area. A tube is then inserted into the location and excess fat is removed through a back and forth motion. This will lead to a scar at the end of the healing process, but the visibility or deepness of the scar is dependent on a variety of factors.

Skill of the cosmetic surgeon

This is the first step to determining if you will have a severe, hard-to-miss scar or something more subtle. Going with a highly skilled surgeon reduces the chances of this happening. A skilled surgeon will understand optimal and strategic positioning of the cannula in a manner that will ensure completion of the process, without badly defacing the surface of the skin in the treated area.

Adherence to instructions

Scars after a vaser lipo procedure are normal, due to it being an invasive procedure. However, the scar will be made negligible if you follow pre and post-operative instructions as handed down by your surgeon. Most of the instructions are made to ensure you don’t have deep scars.  One such instruction from surgeons, aimed specifically at reducing the severity of liposuction scarring, is the use of post-operative salves and ointments.  The ointments help swelling to abate and any scars will diminish greatly in size.

Immediately after surgery, the scars around the liposuction area will appear red and irritated. A few weeks later, following regular use of recommended ointments, the scar should be much less noticeable. After you wait out the initial weeks following treatment, you can begin to enjoy the true benefits of your vaser lipo treatment.

It is important to note that the chance of noticeable scarring is higher with darker skin, but working with a highly qualified doctor and following instructions will ensure you won’t have any regrets.

Have you been finding it difficult to deal with fat in specific areas of your body?  Have you gone through all sorts of weight loss and fitness programs without any results?  There is a solution! Cosmetic surgeons have helped people like you, all over the world, to achieve the body of their dreams through vaser lipo.

VASER (Vibration Amplification of Sound Energy at Resonance) works by removing the deep fat deposits around the target area.  At the end of the procedure, the underlying muscle in the location will be enhanced, giving a physique that is much better looking and great for your self-esteem.  VASER is effective for dealing with fat in the abdomen, knees, ankles, breasts, inner and outer thighs, chin, flanks, breasts, back and upper arms. The process works effectively for both men and women and an overwhelming majority of Vaser Lipo candidates are left thoroughly satisfied at the end of the process.

How does VASER Liposuction Work?

Vaser Liposuction, as a procedure, is minimally invasive and uses ultrasound technology to break down fat cells in the body.

During the procedure, the surgeon injects anaesthetic into the fatty layers beneath the skin around the area to be treated. High energy VASER ultrasonic probes are then used to break up the fat cells and combine them with the fluid. Finally, the surgeon removes the fat from the target area using specially-designed suction tubes known as cannulas.  At the end of the healing process, the skin retracts to give a smoother and more natural appearance.  The final results of the procedure are only visible after a few months in many cases, but there are numerous testimonials telling of instant, noticeable changes.

Why should you embrace VASER Lipo?

Vaser liposuction ensures you won’t be bedridden for too long, in fact in most cases; patients are able to return to work within a week. The surgeon only makes small incisions around the target area so you don’t need to worry about carrying stitches. It is common, however, for patients to experience some swelling and bruising for a few weeks after the procedure. VASER is conducted on an outpatient basis and can, most of the time, be completed outside of a surgical theatre.

VASER Lipo risks

As is the case with many medical procedures, VASER patients run the risk of infection. The risk of this is minimal, however as antibiotics are used liberally, as deemed fit by the surgeon. Another risk is swelling and bruising, as mentioned above. The best vaser lipo surgeons do their best to ensure the absence of scars but patients may witness scarring depending on their skin type.

Vaser lipo is, undoubtedly, a great option for removal of unwanted fat from a specific area of your body. This is especially the case if traditional and often painful liposuction is not for you and diet and exercise haven’t yielded any results. Talk to a surgeon today, to fully evaluate your options.

A breast cancer diagnosis means a malignant tumour has been found within the cells of the breast.  The affected cells can invade the surrounding tissues and spread to other parts of the body.   Breast cancer is primarily a female condition, even though it has been documented in men in the past. Part of the lymph nodes around the tumor site is often removed by surgeons to study the extent to which the cancer has spread.   This may result in lymphedema.

Lymphedema is the accumulation of fluid in the tissues following the removal of the lymph nodes during cancer surgery.  Lymph nodes and vessels circulate fluid around the extremities and when they are removed surgically, a disruption may occur which leads to swollen arms, legs etc.  The lymph fluid is part of the defence mechanism the body has against foreign bodies, so the surgery could lead to a compromised immune system. This is why women who undergo advanced cancer treatments like chemotherapy and radiation are given special diets that should boost their immune systems while reducing the side effects of treatment.

Liposuction breast treatment

After the battle with breast cancer, women live through certain emotions. This is even more common in women who had one or both breasts removed. Breast removal can lead to self-esteem issues and this is why many women elect to go with some form of reconstruction surgery, following recovery. One of the most popular forms of surgery is breast reduction through liposuction.

Vaser liposuction and other forms of liposuction are used in the breast reconstruction process to help achieve a more uniform appearance and improve the woman’s self-esteem. Before engaging in liposuction after breast cancer however, there are important things you need to know.

  1. The process must only be carried out by a fully qualified plastic surgeon. This is vital, as poorly done liposuction can be fatal. The risk is even higher for a former cancer patient.
  2. All treatments you are undergoing must be fully communicated to the surgeon. This will ensure the design of a procedure that will not interfere with any ongoing or follow-up treatment. In the event that it is not possible to prevent interference, the surgeon should recommend delaying the procedure until a later date.
  3. Breast reconstruction surgeries are completed in stages, requiring optimal co-operation from the patient.
  4. Breast reconstruction is not protection against a future cancer diagnosis.
  5. Be sure to check your insurance policy properly as the cost of the liposuction procedure is almost never automatically covered by health insurance.

As is the case with all forms of liposuction, you need to be open to going through different stages of consultations. With breast reconstruction surgery, following cancer, the importance of these consultations cannot be overemphasised.

Are you looking for a procedure that will allow you to lose fat from your waist, back abdomen and other areas with good results and no pain? Then vaser liposuction is the one you should consider. This piece takes a look at how this procedure differs from other prominent fat-reduction procedures.

Liposuction, in general, is a revolutionary method of dealing with stubborn body fat that has defied exercise and diet. However, there are significant differences between the many forms of liposuction. Vaser liposuction, especially, holds some advantages over other forms of liposuction. Vaser liposuction is also known as liposelection or high definition lipo, due to the extra degree of accuracy and targeting involved.  The procedure was established in 1998 but was only approved in 2001.

Vaser is an acronym for Vibration Amplification of Sound Energy at Resonance.

What are the main advantages of liposuction?

  1. The procedure main method is to liquefy fat, without compromising the integrity of surrounding cells. This means that nerves, vessels and tissues are all kept intact.
  2. Vaser liposuction allows an increase in the amount of fat that can be removed, allowing surgeons to exceed standard fat removal amounts of traditional liposuction procedures.
  3. Vaser liposuction doesn’t require surgery and is minimally invasive. Tumescent fluid is used to numb the area and small cannulas are then used to remove fat. This combination ensures faster recovery times.
  4. Vaser liposuction allows individuals to tone muscle groups. This is a great option for muscle builders looking to maintain a natural appearance.

How does vaser liposuction work?

Tumescent fluids are first used in the target areas, as mentioned earlier.  High frequency waves are then used to melt fat in the area being targeted.  The fat cells are liquefied when suction begins, and are subsequently removed with micro cannulas, (which reduces the chances of scarring). Vaser liposuction ensures surgeons can work in a faster and more precise manner.

Vaser liposuction can be enjoyed by a variety of individuals from a mom looking to regain her pre-pregnancy shape, to adult males tired of living with ‘man boobs’. It is, undoubtedly, one of the best ways to improve your self-confidence and finally achieve that look you’ve always wanted.

Top results achievable with Vaser Liposuction

  • Smooth and tight skin.
  • Fast recovery times than traditional procedures.
  • Precision body sculpting.
  • Realistic curves and definition for hard to fix areas.
  • Easy removal of large quantities of fat.

If you are still unsure about the suitability of vaser liposuction for your particular situation, consider speaking with a qualified professional today.

Liposuction surgery will take away extra fat deposits from your body. However, there is a real chance of regaining all the lost fat and more if you don’t take care of your body by eating correctly after the surgery.  So what should you eat after the liposuction surgery?

During the recovery phase it is likely that the doctor will suggest a high-protein diet that will help you stay strong. Without protein, your body will be unable to generate new cells. However, care must be taken to ensure you don’t exceed your recommended calorie range. Remember, you will not be able to work out for a while after Lipo.

The liposuction procedure is stressful on the body. You need to therefore make wise food choices if your muscles and skin are to heal properly during the recovery period.

Valuable liposuction recovery foods include protein shakes, rice, apple sauce, smoothies, yoghurt, oatmeal and softened vegetables.

A strategically balanced meal plan following your surgery is the best way to sustain surgery results. Knowing what foods you can or cannot eat during this particular period is important if you want to recover fully, and properly manage your weight into the future.

What Happens After The Healing Process?

At the end of the healing process, you can return to your normal diet. However, you need to monitor your calorie intake to avoid gaining weight.  A well balanced meal plan that promotes adequate nutrient for your muscles and promotes a healthy heart is all you need. This varies for individuals so it may be a good idea to work with your doctor or a dietician to draft a sustainable meal plan.

Some patients make the mistake of going on extreme diets that eliminate specific food groups they ordinarily enjoy. This is a mistake that could prove costly in the long run. Patients need to remember that the focus of any healthy diet is not to limit food intake or cut tasty foods. Instead of embarking on drastic diet regimes, eating multiple smaller portions over the course of a day and avoiding processed food and fatty foods is a good way to maintain your weight and liposuction results. It is about self-discipline yes. But, it is also about sustainable living, and healthy balance.

Your diet after recovery should include the following: soy based foods, food supplements, healthy fats (flaxseed and olive oil), fresh and dried fruits, leafy green vegetables, whole grains (brown rice and oatmeal) and lean protein (white meat chicken, turkey, salmon and other fresh water fish).

Returning to poor eating habits that you may have developed before the liposuction surgery can lead to a weight gain cycle. If you notice you are going back to old habits, seek nutritional counselling as soon as you can.

Don’t forget that liposuction is surgery. The only way to get true value for the amount of your time, money and emotional investment is to take a healthy approach to your diet.

Vaser liposuction is a form ultrasonic assisted liposuction, introduced in 2002. A thin tube called a cannula is used to burst the walls of fat cells. This liquidises the fat, making it easier to suck out. The procedure takes less time than traditional liposuction and involves less blood, but comes with a slightly increased risk of pockets of fluid forming that may need draining with a needle.

The Process

Small incisions are made upon the area and a tumescent solution is applied that ‘blows up’ the target area. The fat still needs to be suctioned out, however, vaser lipo suction claims to cause less damage to surrounding areas. Some of the most common areas on which this treatment is applied include the abdomen, ankles, knees, and neck. The precision of vaser liposuction allows the targeting of hard to reach areas.

After surgery

You’ll have to wear compression clothing following the treatment to form a new shape with your skin. A minimum of 12 hours rest is required and you will also have to avoid doing any intense or strenuous physical activity for up to three weeks. Provided that you don’t have a job that requires a lot of exertion you will be able to return to your regular life within a day. However, the results are immediate and improve as your body heals. This minimally invasive treatment takes at least an hour but is known for its low, tolerable pain levels, which require only a local anaesthetic.

Advantages

The benefits of vaser are that less damage is caused to blood vessels, tissue and nerves. What this means is that there is a limit on the pain and bruising you will experience afterwards. Although some swelling is to be expected, most of it will subside within three weeks. There is also no need for a general anaesthetic as tumescent fluid is used as a local anaesthetic. The low pain levels associated with this treatment mean that vaser liposuction can be administered in an out-patient facility.

Vaser liposuction is a precise method. The cannula can target waves at specific areas, providing more control for the surgeon. Experienced vaser liposuction surgeons are a rarity, as the technique is still new in medical terms. The costs of learning the new technique and new equipment are a barrier to entry for those looking to transition from ultrasonic assisted liposuction, and other surgical forms.

There have not been any randomised blind studies that show vaser lipo is statistically superior to traditional liposuction. However, informal studies suggest that there are significant benefits. We are now in the third generation of ultrasound assisted liposuction devices. Earlier issues regarding tissue damage from exposure to ultrasound energy have been negated through the introduction of pulsed energy delivery and increasingly specialised probes that have expedited speed and safety of fat removal.

Vaser lipo is the next generation of liposuction.

Background

According to the British Association of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons more and more people are turning to liposuction as a way of removing fat. Despite an overall reduction in the number of cosmetic surgery operations, dropping by 9% in 2014, liposuction managed to buck the trend with a rise of 7%.

Liposuction methods have come a long way since first used in 1920, and new methods seem to be discovered every year. The latest technique is Vaser Liposelection, also known as Liposculpting; a big improvement on the more traditional methods in the opinion of many. This method targets localised stubborn pockets of fat that are resistant to diet or exercise, and is a minimally invasive procedure.

What is VASER Lipo

Vaser Lipo, to give it its commonly used name, stands for Vibration Amplification of Sound Energy at Resonance, and uses ultrasound to break down the fat. The technique is becoming popular due to its quick recovery time, and immediate results compared to the more traditional surgical liposuction procedures.

As each person is unique, choosing which method of liposuction to remove excess fat is an individual choice. Where traditional liposuction is used when there are larger areas of fat, Vaser Lipo is used for patients with an average Body Mass Index (BMI) and who are looking to remove small volumes of fat from key areas of the body.

Advantages of VASER Lipo

One of the primary benefits of using Vaser Lipo is that the procedure can be completed quickly. The operation is done on a day-case basis, and that is often preferred to being an overnight patient. Vaser Lipo can be completed quickly under local anaesthetic rather than taking up to three hours, as for traditional liposuction. Recovery time is faster due to it being a much less intrusive and single procedure rather than being used in conjunction with Abdominoplasty (tummy tuck). The procedure stimulates collagen production, resulting in the skin tightening rather than sagging, so there is no need to perform a tummy tuck.

The other reason that people choose this method over the more traditional ones is that the results of the procedure are visible from day one, and continue to improve in the following months. Patients can also return to normal activities within a shorter time span, although there may be a small amount of discomfort following the procedure. As a low level of heat is produced during the procedure, there is a small possibility of erythema ablipo (skin discolouration). There may also be some minor bruising and bleeding immediately following the procedure.

To ensure patients receive the most optimal results, doctors recommend they plan to have manual lymphatic drainage massage regularly for the two weeks following the procedure. Patients may also need to have a surgical drain fitted before leaving. This is easily removed and is only required for up to five days post procedure. There is a requirement for patients to wear compression garments for between two to four weeks after the operation.

There are some variations in the method of Vaser Lipo, and depending on which method is used patients may be advised not to drive or fly for a few weeks during recovery.

The stomach is a very common place for vaser liposuction treatments. It works well for removing stubborn areas of fat which are hard to shift with diet and exercise. Vaser liposuction can target love handles, muffin tops and pot bellies. The fabled six pack is only achievable with less than 12% body fat, vaser can make possible what you previously thought unattainable.

The Process

Vaser liposuction works by using waves of energy at an ultrasonic frequency. A special thin rod, known as a cannula, is inserted into a small incision and pulses of energy are directed at the desired area. The fat is liquidised and then sucked out. The big advantage of vaser liposuction are that it can tackle persistent stores of fat in the most difficult to reach places.

The new technology used in vaser liposuction works to prevent bleeding by using controlled pulses of ultrasonic waves. However, that is not to say that there are no risks. Burns can occur, as well as any of the complications that go with any open surgery- a small incision is made to insert the cannula.

Recovery Time

Recovery time from vaser liposuction can take a month. Likely side effects include swelling and bleeding; although these can be mitigated with properly administered compression techniques.

Whilst recovering you will be encouraged to undertake light exercise in order to slowly build muscle and strength in the region. By sucking out fat, tunnels are created. This void must be sealed by muscle and collapsed by pressure.

Recovery time is dependent on the individual, both in terms of their general health and the amount of vaser surgery conducted. Generally speaking, patients recover within 2-4 weeks. However, the changes to lifestyle will be required to last for much longer. Diet and exercise are necessary to maintain what surgery can accomplish.

Abdominoplasty

A common and well known alternative to vaser liposuction is the tummy tuck. Abdominoplasty is a surgery that removes the excess skin and fat from the abdomen that may have accumulated. A full abdominoplasty tightens stretched out stomach muscles. It is not a simple procedure, and comes with a host of post-operative care and recovery measures that must be followed.

Vaser liposuction, by contrast, does not remove excess skin. That is what compression, exercise and healthy weight gain come into play. The procedure happens under a local anaesthetic that is injected. This tumescent fluid numbs the area and allows for the destruction of fat to take place. Because of the local anaesthetic patients are often able to return home the same day once they have been cleaned and prepped to leave.

Cosmetic surgery is a decision that requires thought and understanding of the risks involved. In order to make an informed decision it is important that you conduct thorough research and consult with medical professionals for advice.

Vaser liposuction can be used to target areas all over the body. A common place for the treatment to occur is the arms. ‘Bingo wings’, as large and sagging arms are colloquially known, are a perfect area for vaser liposuction. Sometimes no matter how many exercise or nutritional plans you try there are areas of fat that cannot be removed. Changes in body shape are part of getting older, but can affect confidence, which is an important component of mental health.

Brachioplasty and Liposuction

The main options are a brachioplasty or a liposuction. Brachioplasty involves surgical skin removal, whereas vaser liposuction on its own does not involve skin removal. Brachioplasty leaves scarring for up to a year; in some cases it may extend down towards the elbow. For patients requiring brachioplasty the benefits of losing the arm mass outweigh the costs of scarring. This treatment is usually more suited to those who have a lot of excess skin rather than excess fat.

Vaser liposuction uses ultrasonic energy. Waves are fired at fat cells using a special rod known as a cannula. The benefits of this method include less bruising and swelling. Compression methods are also used to drain the tumescent fluid- which contains the local anaesthetic- quickly and safely.

Recovery Is Quick

As it is a minimally invasive practice vaser liposuction mitigates some of the risks associated with other cosmetic or surgical procedures. There is a recovery time of around 3-4 weeks in general, and side effects can and do occur, but with varying degrees of intensity. Most patients recover well and go on to take the necessary steps to preserve what surgery has accomplished.

Skin retraction is not part of vaser liposuction, which itself works by liquidising fat using pulses of ultrasonic waves, however skin and shape are moulded through using compression garments. They are worn for weeks after the procedure and are usually a form of elasticated sportswear material such as lycra.

There is no overnight stay necessary with vaser liposuction, meaning patients can be treated at out-patient facilities and recover at home. Not only does this mean comfortable surroundings are easier to manage, but costs are reduced as there is no overnight hospital stay required.

Quick Return To Work

Time off work is low, with 3 days being enough to see most people back to a light version of their normal routine. Exercise and diet will be important points to track after the treatment. Light stretching and aerobic activities are introduced slowly in order to fill the void where fat has been removed.

If you think that vaser liposuction for your arms is something you would like to consider, be sure to do plenty of research and speak to a medical professional about your options. Vaser liposuction works by liquidising fat using ultrasonic frequencies. The treatment only removes fat, it does not tighten skin, unlike cosmetic surgeries such as a tummy tuck. To tighten skin you need patience, time and application.

If you have vaser liposuction on an area of body prone to loose skin, such as the upper arm, stomach or neck you will be more likely to encounter loose or baggy skin following the procedure. To combat this you can take several steps.

Cardiovascular Exercise

Cardiovascular exercise is a big item on the list. By engaging in regular exercise, circulation is elevated thus bringing nutrients to the skin more easily. Precautions should be taken in the weeks following surgery, but, light, brisk exercise is essential to a speedy recovery- not too much, not too little, Goldilocks’ recovery plan.

Once you have healed more, lifting weights will help to build and tone your muscles. This will fill out the space left by the fat and restore elasticity to the skin. Choose exercises that target the specific body area. Squats and lunges work well for your lower half, while dips and push ups are good body weight exercises for your upper half. Yoga is another useful activity for tightening skin, as it tones and builds strength through stretching.

Hydration

Staying hydrated at all times is essential to healthy skin, so make sure you keep taking on fluids. Aim for a pint an hour. Your liver will be functioning at its best when hydrated. As this organ keeps your skin moisturised it is essential to drink plenty.

Use Off The Shelf Products With Caution

There are a whole host of lotions which will claim to tighten skin. Treat most of these products with a healthy amount of skepticism. Your skin type may require different essential oils in different amounts. Look out for lotions that contain vitamin E and vitamin A as these can help. Vitamin E acts as an anti-oxidant, thus preventing skin damage; Vitamin A acts by encouraging the production of collagen. If you’re able to get out in the sun do that also, Vitamin D is the only vitamin the body can synthesize through sunlight.

Massaging skin daily will encourage circulation, again bringing nutrients to the skin. Use firm pressure on the area for two or three minutes.

By following these guidelines you can develop a personal plan that will return results. The quick part is over once you have vaser liposuction. Maintaining that body shape requires a different approach that unfolds over months and years.

There are non-surgical cosmetic procedures to tighten skin. Radio-frequency waves can be applied to the loose skin, tightening it from the inside. Body contouring surgery is also an option. Vaser liposuction has the advantage of sculpting whilst also improving the fat removal conditions.

Vaser liposuction is touted as being more precise than other ultrasonic methods of liposuction. The benefits of precision are less swelling, less damage to surrounding nerves and tissue, as well as enhancement of open-drainage methods. Online review site realself.com gives vaser liposuction a 88% worth it rating, based on 313 reviews in the last 24 months. The average price is $6,175- about £4000 (price correct 14/12).

But, no surgery is totally free from side effects. Let’s take a look at some of those that sometimes occure with VASER lipo.

Burns

Vaser liposuction can cause second or third degree burns. Vaser is also not a skin tightening procedure, meaning further work must be done to the area. There can also be discolouration of the skin, which adds to the recovery time.

The other side effects are common with all types of liposuction, and by extension surgery. Although a local anaesthetic is commonly used there are still instances of a general anaesthetic being used. Fat clots or blood clots may form and these have the potential to migrate to the lungs or brain, which can be fatal.

Infections

Infections may occur during any surgery. Liposuction techniques include open draining. which can be susceptible to infection. Toxic shock syndrome, or necrotising fasciitis (tissue eating bacteria), are potentially life threatening consequences.

Specifically with regard to vaser liposuction there is a possibility of the ultrasound energy penetrating deeper and damaging the tissue. Experienced surgeons are less likely to make mistakes with tumescent fluid. Too much may cause it to collect in the lungs. Seromas, a pool of yellow liquid where tissue has been removed, may form.

Fluid Imbalance

A lot of fat issue is removed during the treatment. At the same time, surgeons require large amounts of fluid to be injected. This can cause a fluid imbalance which can manifest as excessive fluid in the lungs, or it may affect kidney function as they work hard to maintain a balance.

Bruising

Bruising is common and can take several weeks to fully subside. Data suggests 50% of patients are free from bruising 13 days after treatment and 90% after 24 days. Swelling is another factor to account for. It is mitigated by using compression wraps, or garments which must be worn for a month. Some doctors posit that the longer the compression is applied the better; gradually reducing the degree of compression. 50% of patients have subsided swelling 14 days after treatment. Numbness tends to linger for around 3 weeks. Medical data shows that 50% of patients have no numbness 15 days after treatment.

The aftercare routine and lifestyle changes that are prescribed following treatment require planning and consideration too. Dietary changes are necessary, and an exercise routine must be followed in order to achieve the optimal results.

The risks associated with liposuction take time to understand and as the procedure is not medically necessary- in most cases- you should take your time in deciding to commit to the treatment. Complications are a real risk so it is important to have made a decision with a clear head having considered the possible outcomes. Serious side effects are very rare. Speak to a vaser lipo surgeon, who can give full and frank explanation of the risks.

Before your liposuction surgery, your doctor will provide you with a list of things you are expected to do or avoid. However, there are other things you need to consider if you want to properly prepare yourself for Lipo treatment.

Food

You need to beef up your health considerably by eating a good amount of protein, fruit and vegetables and healthy fats and carbohydrates.  Liposuction is regarded as a relatively safe procedure, but it is vital to be in top physical condition for your body to handle the demands of surgery and recovery.

Recovery time preparation

Before the operation, you need to put machinery in place that will allow you enough time to recover. You will need complete freedom from work-related commitments, family commitments and in fact any physically demanding responsibilities.  You also need to have someone lined up to provide you with assistance during the early days of the surgery recovery.

Medication

You need to abstain from all forms of cold and sinus medication, vitamin E tablets, nutritional supplements, non-steroidal inflammatory medication, etc. at least two weeks before the surgery.  These medications interfere with your body’s blood clotting ability. If you are taking birth control pills, you will be required to use other forms of contraceptives until after the surgery. In fact, it is in your best interests to notify the doctor of all medications you are taking.

Smoking

If you are a smoker about to go in for Lipo suction, you need to quit at least two months before the surgery. You will also not be able to continue your abstinence after the surgery. There is a risk of chest infection if anaesthesia is administered on you if you continue smoking until surgery. Secondly, smoking cuts down blood flow to the skin. This can increase the risk of circulation problems after surgery and may affect your surgical outcome.

Supplies

You need to ensure you stock up on post-surgery supplies, including medication, compression garments and bandages. Other recovery items you should stock up on include alcohol gauze pads for cleaning the incision site, pain medication and cold packs. The last two are dependent on doctor advice, but are generally advisable.

Your doctor will most likely prescribe antibiotics. It is important for you to fill your prescription ahead of time as it could be difficult after the procedure. Apart from medical supplies, you need a good supply of food, toiletries etc. It is easy to wave this aside if you have made plans for a live-in help during the recovery procedure. However, there is no telling what will happen over that period. You don’t want to run out of supplies when there is no one around to help replenish.

Entertainment

After the procedure, you will have to reduce activity for a few days. You will need a supply of books, movies, games or other forms of amusement to avoid the inevitable boredom. You will be able to be active, and light activity will actually speed the recovery process, but you will need your recovery downtime too.

Finally, you need to arrange a reliable driver that will convey you to and from the clinic. Don’t forget to setup a backup plan to ensure there is a driver on hand in case an emergency interferes with the plans of your first choice.

Vaser liposuction results can be thought of as permanent. This is because fat cells have been removed from the area. Once removed, these cells cannot return, they stay gone.

If a person were to gain fat after the procedure, it would be stored in other parts of the body. Also, not all fat cells can be removed from an area of the body, so the area where lipo was performed can still store fat too. Fat cells do not have a maximum capacity, they can grow and stretch to store more, so it is possible to undo the effects of lipo when gaining a lot of weight.

With that said, usually your body will hold its new shape, providing the weight gain isn’t too extreme. Instead a person would gain weight evenly all over the body, making them bigger in size but the same shape overall.

Liposuction is not a weight loss regime

Keep in mind the liposuction isn’t a great way to lose weight. Your weight won’t change a lot by removing fat from specific areas. Instead, the best use of this procedure is to adjust the shape of your body, or to deal with problem areas where you have struggled to lose the fat. These types of areas often include the thighs, abdominal areas (especially lower and side abdominal areas), and the under-arms. Preferably you would already be quite close to your ideal weight before a liposuction procedure.

Pregnancy shouldn’t change results

Pregnancy  shouldn’t affect the results of liposuction treatment. Your body will get bigger during pregnancy, though it should return to its post-lipo shape after the pregnancy is over.

Ageing can distort results

Ageing will begin to gradually undo the effects of liposuction. After all, nothing can stop or reverse the effects of time. As our bodies age, we begin to store fat more easily. We can also gain more weight, due to a lower metabolism, and our skin becomes looser and less elastic. Due to these factors, liposuction results can fade over time. This is a slow, long process though, so isn’t something to be worried about at this time.

With some patients, fat gained after the procedure might be stored in an area of the body that didn’t previously hold much fat. This can of course change the body shape you wanted in the first place. These kind of effects mean that if you follow a good diet and exercise plan after your procedure, and keep good control of your weight, your body can be maintained for a very long time without more procedures.

Diet and exercise are vital

You don’t need to be killing yourself to keep the changes from your liposuction procedure, your surgeon will be able to discuss things like a diet and exercise plan with you. It really just means not over-eating, not eating lots of very bad food, and doing a little exercise to keep yourself in shape.

While all liposuction procedures will affect your body in the way mentioned here, removing the fat cells with good effect, Vaser techniques are preferred for two reasons. Firstly, it’s the least invasive form of treatment, meaning you don’t even need an overnight stay in hospital. Additionally, it doesn’t leave a rough, bumpy effect like some other treatments are known to. Vaser gives you a great, natural looking finish.

Why VASER High Def?

Some people want to lose fat in specific places, and the legs are of course one of these places. After the abdominal area, the legs are usually the next most popular target for those undergoing vaser liposuction. In fact, women usually store fat in their thigh areas before anywhere else, making it a notorious problem area for females around the world.  Men, conversely, tend to store fat in the abdominal area first. There are also some people who have lumps, bumps and other imperfections in the leg region, making them very self-conscious about the appearance of their legs.

Older methods of liposuction were not effective at removing fat around the whole of the leg, with most surgeons choosing to concentrate on the inner thighs, outer thighs, and the buttock creases. These were the simplest and most effective areas for fat removal, giving a relatively sculpted appearance. With that said, it wasn’t possible to shape the legs 360 degrees as required. You’d have to make do with what you could get.

Many surgeons also shied away from attempting other areas on the leg as they feared leaving unsightly scars and markings around the whole circumference of the leg. Some surgeons also don’t like to work on the leg, as it is a more complicated procedure than abdominal liposuction. Some of these surgeons will flat out refuse to work on anybodies leg. That’s not a bad thing though – if they aren’t feeling confident about how well or how safely they can do this procedure, then it’s better they leave it to the experts.

These days the process is still difficult and requires experience, though what can be performed has changed vastly with VASER High-Def Liposuction.

 What is VASER High-Def?

This uses amplified, concentrated waves of ultrasound to send vibrations through the fat targeted area. The area is also injected with an anaesthetic solution, in an exact amount at a precise location. This allows the fat cells in that area to be emulsified/liquefied by the sound waves, then sucked out using a tiny cannula.

This technique is hugely popular and relatively new, though it’s been around long enough to work out the kinks. It allows cosmetic surgeons to target areas with incredible accuracy, and also to create the desired shape much more reliably.

Now it’s possible to shape your leg however you like, and to remove fat from any area. Fat can also be added in small amounts to other areas, which can increase the definition of your legs. VASER is also less invasive than other lipo, and you should not need to stay in a clinic at all. Simply drop in for your appointment, and head home a few hours later.

Recovery times are shorter too, and the whole process is less painful as it’s done in a very safe, non-invasive way, leaving everything but the fat cells untouched and undamaged. Older style liposuction can damage nerves, blood vessels and other tissue.

The accuracy of this process means 360 degree leg contouring is absolutely possible, though your surgeon should have previous experience with the procedure. Talk to them to confirm this when you first discuss the surgery.

So you’ve made the decision to have a Vaser liposuction procedure. The next step is to decide where you will have this done, and who your surgeon will be. Here are a few things for you to keep in mind when you’re deciding:

Discuss With Your GP

This is a great place to start as your GP knows you, your health and your situation. They also know the medical scene and will know which surgeons have great reputations, and which have not-so-great reputations. In the case that you’ve got a specific surgeon in mind, you could run it by your GP to get their thoughts. Your GP can also give his opinion on this surgeon, and let you know what, if anything, he has heard or knows about this surgeon.

Check Your Prospects Out

Visit any clinics you are thinking of using. Also discuss the procedure with any surgeons that you are considering. This will give you a good feel for both the clinic and the surgeon. If you feel uncomfortable with either of these, you should look elsewhere.  Take the chance to ask any questions you might have, and get whatever information you require too.

Check Registrations

Make sure your surgeon, and all doctors & nurses who are going to be involved with your procedure, are registered with the GMC/NMC. The facility you use should also be registered with CQC (Care Quality Commission). The CQC has a database of their own you can search for the clinic you like. By doing this you can also see their latest quality report. Alternatively, the clinic can show you their registration certificate if you ask.

Surgeons Qualifications

It isn’t always necessary to have specific qualifications for the procedure, though it can be an advantage. You want your chosen surgeon to have enough qualifications and accreditations to prove they are a competent surgeon and know what they’re doing.

Surgeons Experience

Ask how many Vaser procedures your surgeon has completed, and whether they’ve ever had to deal with any complications. These can’t be helped occasionally, though your selected surgeon shouldn’t be a person that has caused many. What’s more important is if there have been any form of complications, minor or major, how did the surgeon handle them?

Ensure you’ll get the results you want

Make it very clear what type of shape/contours you want your body to have afterwards. Ask to see before/after pictures from past procedures. This will give you a good idea of your surgeons capabilities.

 Safety

You should already have a lot of info on your prospective surgeon by now. A good thing to delve deeper into is their safety procedures, and their post-surgical care process. These will both be important to make sure you are as safe and comfortable as possible at all times. Be sure your surgeon is as safe as possible, even if it means a little extra cost. After all, you can’t buy your way back from serious harm.

VASER liposuction procedures are becoming more and more popular due to the ease and speed of having them done. They are less invasive, quicker and less painful than other, older methods of liposuction.

So why is this particularly good for those wanting to define their abdominal muscles better? Well, six-pack abs can be notoriously difficult to get, as some people will have stubborn fat deposits in areas near the abdomen. The lower stomach is known to be one such area for both men and women.

Vaser Lipo is best for abs

The precise nature of a Vaser procedure makes it ideal for six-pack abs. This is an area where specific parts need fat removal, in order to sculpt the shape desired. Your surgeon will need to be skilled in this procedure, and should have experience with this particular process. The fat along the natural lines of your ab muscles should be removed to create the desired appearance. One area of your stomach may have more fat than others, this won’t affect the surgery.

Vaser allows the level of precision you require to have this surgery, as it can be done in very small areas with a great degree of accuracy. When fat cells are removed with this process, they are removed permanently. Keep in mind however, not all cells can be removed, and those that remain do have the potential to grow if your body requires the fat storage. This will happen if you have bad eating habits, so you need to change those right away as well. Your surgeon can advise on after-surgery care.

Are you ready or not?

Another consideration is whether or not you are ready for this procedure. For ideal results, you should already have good muscle tone and get regular exercise. It’s also advantageous to have a good diet already. Fat over the abdominals as a whole can also be removed, though without abdominal muscles built up underneath, it will be tough to get great results. You don’t have to be mega-fit, you just need a base to build on.

Contact a surgeon to consult on if this is appropriate for you now, or whether you might need to get more exercise in first. Once you’re ready, you can get booked in and go ahead with the procedure itself.

Vaser process

This will involve your surgeon liquefying fat in the desired areas, before sucking it out with a small cannula. You will need some recovery time after a procedure like this. The normal recovery time is around a month, and improvements are usually seen from as little as two weeks after the procedure.

The reason it takes a little time to see results is that your body will be adjusting to its new shape. Skin around the treated area will be looser, because fat has been removed from underneath it. Your skin has a natural tightening process that it will go into at this time, so the skin will gradually shrink down and adjust to your new shape. The abdominal muscles and areas around them are likely to be sore for a while, and you shouldn’t be exercising during the first month post-surgery.

There may be some weird feelings during this adjustment process too, your stomach may feel overly hard or tender at times. All of this will gradually settle down, and return to normal. Improvements made usually improve over time as well, with the best effects being seen 6 months to a year after the surgery.

Many people are unsure on what VASER liposuction is, or how safe it is. It has been available for a little over 10 years at this point, and has surged in popularity over the last few. VASER is a newer method of lipo, and stands for Vibration Amplification of Sound Energy at Resonance.

This is a fancy way of saying it uses ultrasound waves that are amplified and targeted to hit the fat cells in a specific area. Special ultrasonic probing tools are used here. The waves from these probes cause vibrations that liquefy fat cells so that they can be removed.

Before the ultrasound process, the surgeon will usually inject an anaesthetic solution to numb the area. This solution helps with the process of turning the cells to liquid. The removal is then done with a tiny cannula, up to 2mm wide, which sucks out the resulting liquid. A small amount of the anaesthetic solution will usually be left inside to speed up the healing process.

Of course not all cells can be removed, but a lot can.

Who is it recommended for?

This liposuction procedure is recommended for those who are already exercising and close to their ideal weight, and who also have a good diet. For these people, liposuction is much more effective, as VASER is not a weight loss tool. It is used to reshape and remove specific areas of fat, which may otherwise be problem areas.

It can also be used in areas where fat has built up over time under loose skin, due to ageing. The best candidates for surgery will already be at their ideal weight.

Is it truly safe?

When it comes to safety, VASER is much safer than older methods of liposuction. Older methods didn’t have the technology to liquefy the fat cells before removal, which made it a more invasive and painful process. This could also cause damage to other cells in the body, such as the veins and capillaries, as well as other delicate tissues. There was also the likelihood of an unsightly scar after surgery.

The availability of VASER and the ability to liquefy fat cells before removal has changed this entirely. First of all, there is no longer an unsightly scar. The only scarring that could occur is a possible small dot where the 2mm cannula has been used to suck out the liquid fat and cells. Often this doesn’t cause a scar at all, as it is so small, though it can happen occasionally.

Outpatient treatment

As it’s a less invasive surgery, there’s no need for a stay in hospital or a clinic either. You can be in and out on the same day, and recover the rest at home. Recovery times are shorter too, because of the process now being more accurate. Recovery time is also less painful than older methods.

VASER liposuction also doesn’t cause damage to surrounding areas like nerves, veins and other types of tissue. Leaving these areas untouched contributes to the quicker and less painful recovery.

There’s also no need for general anaesthetic, which removes an often overlooked risk from the whole process. You can have this surgery performed with local anaesthetic, as it is usually sufficient.

What is liposuction?

Liposuction is an invasive procedure aimed at improving body contour by removing fat cells between the skin and the underlying muscles. The procedure is less invasive than a tummy tuck. Liposuction is carried out as an outpatient procedure in most cases.

How does liposuction work?

Small incisions are made in the body and cannulas (which are small stainless tubes) are passed through them.  The tube dislodges fat deposits, which are suctioned out using a surgical vacuum and syringe.

Are there several types of liposuction?

There are several types of liposuction. These include, tumescent liposuction, ultrasound assisted liposuction, vaser liposuction and laser assisted liposuction.   The plastic surgeon will determine the best option for you.  Some of these types of liposuction are less painful and bruising than traditional methods. However, you need to be aware of the risks of abnormal scarring or thermal injuries. This is why careful analysis is vital before a decision is made.

Is liposuction right for you?

The ideal candidates for liposuction are people that are close to their normal body weight but have areas with localised fat deposits that cannot be dissolved through diet and exercise. The procedure is not recommended for people that are overweight. The ideal body mass index range is 27 and below.  Bariatric surgery may be recommended for overweight individuals.

Liposuction can be done on both sexes and there are no age limits. However, reduced skin elasticity could hamper the success of the procedure for some people.  Smokers will be required to abstain from smoking for weeks before and after the procedure.

Is liposuction painful?

In the first two days after surgery you will experience some degree of pain that can be treated with prescription medication. You may continue to feel small amounts of pain intermittently for a few weeks following the procedure. However, extreme pain requires swift medical attention, as it could mean infection or some other complication.

How large are incisions?

Liposuction incisions are small. They are typically 3-5 millimetres long and are only made in areas that can be covered by underwear.

Will liposuction help with weight loss?

It is important to note that the procedure is not a weight loss regime. Its focus is to reshape and contour the body. However, it helps in weight loss because it speeds up the metabolism allowing individuals to burn calories faster.  After the surgery, you may look the same for a couple of weeks. In the long run however, the weight loss effects become evident.

Is it important to repeat liposuction to maintain results?

No. One of the after effects of liposuction is the increased metabolic rate.  Proper diet and exercise can allow you to maintain your results, meaning no need for repeat surgery.

Is it possible to have liposuction before pregnancy?

Yes. Many patients have successfully used liposuction as a protection against pregnancy related weight gain.  Liposuction before pregnancy reduces the possibility of weight gain and stretch marks.

When do results start showing?

There are two factors that determine when results become evident. The first is the post-surgery swelling, which could remain for up to a month.  The second is the metabolic rate increase, which may kick in two months after surgery. Patients can therefore expect to see results between 3 and 6 months following surgery.

If you’re tired of trying fad diets and exercise regimes in an effort to tone your stubborn stomach or achieve the ‘thigh gap’ dream, you might have been considering liposuction. This minimally invasive method is a great way to sculpt the body and target problem areas – but are you a good candidate for the Vaser liposuction procedure?
There are a number of factors, both physical and psychological, which affect whether you’re seen as a good candidate for liposuction – let’s take a look at them.

Physical factors of Vaser Liposuction

If you’re within 30% of your ideal weight, you will be a strong candidate for liposuction – any more than 30% and you may wish to consider more comprehensive weight loss methods.

You should have firm skin with good elasticity – this will help you to achieve the look you want post-procedure. It also helps if you have good muscle tone. Many doctors experienced in liposuction recommend that you start to tone your muscles before you have a procedure, so that you’ll experience maximum results.

Gold star if you’re a non-smoker! Unfortunately, if you smoke, you might be downgrading your candidacy status for liposuction. Smoking already has a number of health risks, and can lead to further complications if you decide to go for liposuction.

It’s also important that you’re in relatively good health, with no illnesses or conditions that may prevent you from healing properly in the future. If you do suffer from a specific health condition, your doctor will be better placed to take you through your options with regards to liposuction.

Psychological factors

A sound state of mental and emotional health is necessary for any kind of cosmetic surgery, not just liposuction. Doctors must individually evaluate the patient’s psychological state before they can sanction any kind of cosmetic procedure.

It’s crucial that patients choosing the Vaser liposuction procedure have a realistic idea of how the procedure will affect them, and what the results will be. Managing the expectations of the patient is something the doctor will need to do from the very first consultation – but it’s also important that the patient doesn’t expect to transform into Kate Moss overnight.

So am I a good candidate for Vaser Lipo?

If you have reasonable expectations about the results of the surgery, if you’re in relatively good health, if you’re within 30% of your ideal weight, with firm skin and no current smoking addiction – congratulations! You’re an ideal candidate for liposuction. If you’re considering undergoing this procedure to tone your tummy or another problem area, get in touch with our team for more details.

Here at Advanced Lipo Centre, we know that everyone has body hang-ups and insecurities – even the most famous celebrities you can imagine! Stunning supermodel of the generation, Kate Moss, once famously labelled herself ‘bow-legged’, Sarah Jessica Parker is insecure about her hands, while Twilight stud Robert Pattinson says he feels self-conscious when he visits Australia because everyone’s in much better shape than him!

Luckily, there’s an answer for people who feel insecure about many of their body parts. Vaser liposuction is a great way to slim down and contour your body exactly the way you want it. It’s much more precise and gentle than traditional liposuction – so it’s little wonder people are turning to this solution in their thousands in a bid to achieve their desired shape!

But here at Advanced Lipo Centre, we offer two forms of Vaser liposuction – the regular Vaser option, and Vaser HD. Which one is right for you?

Vaser Liposuction

Traditional Vaser liposuction underpins all of the other Vaser procedures that are available. It provides the foundation for all of the treatments that come under the Vaser umbrella. The technique, as you may know, uses ultrasound energy to turn fat into liquid, before inserting tiny little cannulas to drain off the fluid and make the area appear much slimmer.

Unlike conventional liposuction, none of the surrounding tissues are damaged, which means a very small likelihood of bruising or scarring. There’s no need for general anaesthetic – a small local anaesthetic means less risk than normal liposuction, and the recovery times are really short. You could be up and about just hours after your Vaser procedure!

So where can Vaser be used? The results of this technique have been tailored to be soft and natural-looking, so it’s great to use on stubborn areas with fat that won’t seem to budge. The back of the arms are notoriously hard to tone, so this is a great place to get Vaser – same goes for those ‘love handles’ that appear on your waist. Many people use Vaser on their jawlines (another area that’s almost impossible to tone), and men have found that Vaser is a great solution for gynecomastia (also known as man boobs!).

Vaser Hi-Def

So what about Vaser Hi-Def, the other treatment that we offer here at Advanced Lipo Centre? Vaser Hi-Def is a more advanced technique which allows for the sculpting and toning of certain areas on the body, for a more athletic appearance. The intense definition that is achieved from this technique is great for areas that already have some toned muscle beneath – the abdomen, the back, the thighs and the arms, for example.

If you’re already in fairly good shape, but you’d like a little extra definition on those key areas, Vaser Hi-Def is the solution for you.

For many of our clients, one of the first questions they ask about is about the vaser recovery time – and anything they can do to ensure the recovery process is as smooth and successful as possible.

One of the key things that patients can do to improve skin recovery is wear a compression garment. By applying a consistent external pressure on deep tissues, this lessens the chance of post-surgery complications – though with Vaser, the chances are already minimal. Read on to discover why you should wear compression garments after liposuction procedures.

What do compression garments do?

During the Vaser procedure, ultrasound energy is used to turn fat into liquid, which is then drained off using tiny little cannulas strategically placed around the area. Naturally, this means that there is a space between the skin and the muscles, where the fat used to be. By compressing this area over the first few weeks, patients can avoid fluid build-up.

The compression garments also help to achieve the desired results more effectively. By keeping the area nice and compressed, this helps to minimise the chances of skin sagging, as well as reducing the risk of unwanted creases forming. By holding the skin in place and supporting it with the compression garment, the area is given all of the help it needs to heal naturally and beautifully.

How long should I wear it for?

You should wear your compression garment for 24 hours a day – though it can be taken off when you need to bathe or take a shower. You should wear it for at least a few weeks after the procedure to make sure the area has adequate time to heal and adapt to its new shape.

If your Vaser procedure was conducted on the abdominal area, you’ll need to wear foam padding under the compression garment for a little extra support. This will ultimately help to make the contours of your body even more defined when you eventually show off the results to the world!

My compression garment is too big! What should I do?

One of the most exciting things about Vaser liposuction recovery is the results can continue to improve for weeks after the initial procedure. The ultrasound energy can continue to turn fat into liquid for a few weeks, and the body naturally drains it off. This means that the compression garment you’re initially given might not fit after a few weeks, as your body shrinks even further!

If you’ve found that your compression garment is no longer offering the support you need, that means the procedure has worked! You should also see your clinic to get a replacement and ensure that it’s as tight and supportive as possible.

Here at Advanced Lipo Centre, we know there are a multitude of benefits to having liposuction – and we want to communicate them all to our clients, so they understand exactly what they stand to gain from undergoing one of these procedures.

So here we are – the advantages and benefits of having Vaser liposuction surgery, by the experts here at Advanced Lipo Centre. Enjoy!

Increased self confidence

This is the major reason why many people turn to liposuction in the first place. Feeling insecure about your body is almost like being imprisoned – many people feel they can’t go out in public, or they can’t wear the clothes they want. Other individuals worry that they may be taunted, and some develop body image issues that affect their mental health.

Liposuction is a great, fast solution for those who suffer from low self-esteem. By undergoing Vaser liposuction, patients can shape and contour the parts of their body that they dislike most, giving them a new lease of life when they come out of the clinic. We’ve had many clients return to us to tell us that liposuction has changed their life for the better and given them confidence they never knew they had in them!

Pursuing a healthier lifestyle

Many people that are overweight find it hard to pursue a healthy lifestyle, purely because they feel the results are so far away. It’s hard to remain motivated when it doesn’t feel like you’re getting anywhere. Liposuction helps give overweight individuals a kick-start in pursuing a healthier lifestyle. They might be happier about going to the gym because of their new figure, or they might feel confident enough to take up a new hobby because they’re not focused on their body hang-ups. The feeling of their svelte new shape might also be enough to put them off sugary treats and unhealthy snacks!

Clothes fit better

When people have liposuction, many of them find that they can suddenly choose from all of the clothes in a shop, rather than heading for the ‘plus-size’ section in one corner. By having fat removed from the stomach, thighs, hips or arms, patients might find they also drop a few clothes sizes – so they need to kit out their wardrobe with fashionable new garments! Breathing new life into your wardrobe is a great way to boost confidence, and is another happy side-effect of liposuction.

Body hang-ups can happen to anyone, even the rich and famous. Many people in the limelight find that their insecurities are amplified when they’re followed around by paparazzi and reporters all day long – so of course, they want to ensure they’re in the very best shape possible. If that means turning to liposuction to give themselves a boost, so be it!

We’ve already featured five top celebrities that have undergone liposuction on the blog, but guess what? Here’s five more!

Mariah Carey

The self-confessed diva (or The Elusive Chanteuse, as she likes to be known) is rumoured to have had liposuction after the birth of her adorable twins. Many women choose to have liposuction after they’ve given birth because it’s hard for them to spring back into their natural shape – even when you have the help that Mariah does!

Britney Spears

This other popstrel has had two children and turned to liposuction to help her get back into shape ahead of her high-profile residency in Vegas. We have to say, the pop princess looks absolutely fantastic nowadays – the lady that used to have the finest abs in show business is well on her way to reclaiming that crown!

Jessica Alba

Another lady that’s turned to cosmetic surgery to get back to her best after having kids. The gorgeous movie star is rumoured to have had laser liposuction to keep her body flawless. Many people have the misconceived idea that only people who are overweight get liposuction, but Jessica Alba certainly debunks that myth – indeed, many people turn to liposuction in order to get increased definition or to zap away problem areas like their ‘mummy tummy’ – we think she looks incredible!

Clay Aiken

The US singer, songwriter and occasional activist has admitted to have liposuction around his chin. He originally had surgery on his jaw for a disorder that he had – and he confirmed that he had them ‘suck the fat out’ of his chin while they were in there. Two jobs in one! We think the liposuction results are great!

Heidi Montag

This reality TV show star famously underwent ten cosmetic surgery procedures in the course of a day in order to achieve her dream body. The American beauty had liposuction on her neck, her waist, her hips and her inner and outer thighs, as well as a number of other procedures that helped her achieve the look she had always desired.

When many people think of liposuction, they think of bums, tums and thighs being nipped and tucked. But now, advanced developments in liposuction – namely the introduction of Vaser technology – means that surgeons can be many times more precise, opening up new areas of the body as potential liposuction areas.
Yes – that includes the face! Let’s take a look at why you might consider getting Vaser liposuction on your face.

What can I do about my facial insecurities, or the first signs of ageing?

As we age, our skin loses its natural elasticity, and the fat around the face can start to sag. This causes jowls and droopy cheeks, often dragging down the eyes a little too – we can start to appear tired and puffy, and it’s a serious cause for concern for many. But never fear! There is hope for those who feel uncomfortable with their facial appearance and want to do something about it.

Vaser liposuction on the face is minimally invasive and highly effective – it removes tiny amounts of excess fat around the face and neck to promote that taut, plump, youthful quality that we lose as we age.

How does Vaser liposuction work on the face?

Essentially, Vaser face liposuction works by using ultrasound energy to liquidize the fat within the face, melting it down so it becomes fluid. The surgeons then strategically insert a number of tiny cannulas (no bigger than a few millimetres) to drain off this excess fluid and leave patients with a more youthful face.

Vaser is a more advanced and progressive form of liposuction that allows for a much faster recovery time. Usually, only a local anaesthetic is needed to place the cannulas, and patients can be up and about and walking out of the clinic on the same day!

Won’t my face get bruised?

Every patient reacts differently, so we can’t predict everybody’s results to the letter, but we can say this: Vaser is the most gentle liposuction technique on the market. It leaves absolutely minimal bruising and swelling, which subsides within days. If you go ahead and choose Vaser facial liposuction, your face could be back to its best within a matter of days.

What’s more, the way Vaser works actually promotes continued fat liquidization over the weeks immediately following the procedure. The ultrasound energy lingers in the body for a while, depleting the fat, while the body drains off the liquid naturally. You might walk out of the clinic feel thrilled with your new face, only to look in the mirror a week later and find that you look even better!

Think it’s only women that get liposuction? Think again! According to the British Association of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons (BAAPS), male patients account for roughly one in ten of all surgical procedures, and back in 2014, Harley Street’s Private Clinic reported a 150% rise in the number of men booking in for Vaser liposuction – the very technique we specialise in here at Advanced Lipo Centre.

So why do men turn to liposuction? Let’s have a look at some of the factors…

Weight loss

Of course, weight loss is one of the key reasons why both men and women turn to liposuction. It helps to streamline and smooth the shape, getting rid of lumps and bumps for a more toned appearance. Many men who have tried dieting and had no results will turn to liposuction to help them achieve the weight loss results they want.

Insecurity

Both men and women are constantly bombarded with images of fit and healthy models – men see endless images of other chaps with rippling torsos, defined biceps and even muscular thighs, in adverts, in sports, in movies and in music videos. It’s little wonder many men feel insecure about their physique and turn to Vaser liposuction as the answer.

Definition

Not every man can look like they’ve just sprung from the cover of Men’s Health. Sometimes, no matter how hard you diet and no matter how long you spend in the gym, you just can’t achieve that incredible definition that makes front page models look so fantastic. Vaser liposuction for men is a great way to boost definition and sculpt a shape that both men and women will go crazy for. From getting that extra definition in the abdominal region, to contouring the biceps for a muscular look, Vaser liposuction can help men go that little bit further in their bid for a rippling body.

Awareness of results

Could it be possible that women are more aware of the results that can be achieved by liposuction? We certainly think so – it’s a constant feature in women’s magazines and it’s not a taboo subject among friends anymore. An increasing number of men are also opening up about their results and showing other men exactly what can be achieved. We heard of one chap that wanted to look his best before his wedding – he already ate well and exercised regularly, he just wanted a little extra definition for his wife-to-be! One of his friends went in for Vaser liposuction and showed him the results – and he was sold! He went in for Vaser liposuction before the wedding and was thrilled with his new physique (and presumably, so was his bride!).

At Advanced Lipo Center, we specialise in one key liposuction treatment that stands head and shoulders above the rest – Vaser. But why have we chosen this method, how does it work, and what are the results like? Let’s find out…

What is Vaser?

Vaser liposuction is a minimally intrusive alternative to traditional liposuction. It’s a well-established method, and it offers plenty of benefits over the conventional liposuction techniques – it’s less painful, recovery times are faster, and it’s less expensive too.

Why did we choose Vaser?

We chose to specialise in Vaser for all the reasons listed above – and more! We want our clients to look and feel fantastic, with minimal recovery time, less swelling, no general anaesthetic and instantly noticeable results. Vaser also offers more long-lasting results than liposuction – it is very gentle to the tissue surrounding treatment areas, to ensure it looks a perfectly smooth, contoured finish, with no sign of the procedure.

So how does it work?

The Vaser liposuction procedure transmits ultrasound energy to the targeted areas using thin, grooved probes. This energy is used to break up the fatty deposits within these areas – it causes cells to vibrate, which in turn makes them dissolve. Essentially, Vaser turns fat in the body into liquid.

This liquid is then drained from the body using tiny cannulas placed around the treatment area. These are only a few millimetres long, which means the scars are incredibly tiny, and don’t require stitches. Any residual fat leftover will also be excreted naturally by the body – so Vaser results can actually improve over time!

What about Vaser Hi-Def?

We’re also proud to offer a treatment called Vaser Hi-Def here at Advanced Lipo Centre. Performed under local anaesthetic, this option is a slightly longer procedure, and works better for clients that already have a good standard of muscle tone, but need a little extra help to achieve the definition that they want.

Our expert surgeons work with the existing contours of your body to make them more defined and noticeable. It’s great for men that want to see more of a contrast between their abs, and it’s also ideal for supporting fat loss in those new mums who are struggling to get rid of their ‘mum tum’.

When will I see results?

As Vaser is minimally invasive (we only use tiny cannulas to drain away fluid) you’ll experience the smallest amount of bruising and swelling in the area – and you’ll see the results straight away! What’s more, the fat deposits continue to break down and pass out of the body for a few weeks after the procedure. You might walk away from your procedure feeling great about your new contoured shape, only to discover that the results get even better as the weeks pass!

The cost of the procedure is a huge factor in people’s decision on whether to get liposuction or not. Many people falsely believe that liposuction costs many thousands of pounds, and that they’ll either need huge savings or a huge loan to be able to afford it.
Luckily, this is absolutely not the case at Advanced Lipo Centre!

We’re often asked about Vaser liposuction costs, and we can confirm that our minimally invasive Vaser liposuction treatments have the most competitive prices in the UK, so you’re guaranteed to get a great deal and the very best possible value.

Forget travelling abroad for cosmetic surgery

A large number of people think that cosmetic surgery abroad is the cheapest option for them – but when factoring in the cost of flights, accommodation and other spending money while in a foreign country, the total cost of obtaining the surgery can be astronomical! Not to mention the fact that many clinics or surgeries in other countries are not held to the same incredibly high standards that UK surgeons are – there’s no guarantee of quality when travelling abroad. All of our practitioners are board certified, which means you’re assured the highest standards of care and expertise in the industry.

Fees at Advanced Lipo Centre

Here at Advanced Lipo Centre, we pride ourselves on being able to offer the highest quality treatment at great value prices. As the UK’s leading specialist in Vaser liposuction treatments, our prices start at just £1,500 for traditional Vaser, while the Vaser Hi-Def option begins at £2,000.

Just because our prices are reasonable and affordable, doesn’t mean we ever sacrifice on quality. We are one of the most respected and celebrated providers of liposuction in the country, and our reputation for excellence is well-known. When it comes to shaping your body, we firmly believe you shouldn’t be faced with a choice between quality and cost – you should be able to enjoy both!

The same treatment for all

One of the great things about our service is that it’s used by foreign royalty and high-net-worth individuals, as well as by ordinary members of the public that want to sculpt and contour their bodies. The prices are the same, the treatment is the same, and the results are the same – so you’re essentially getting the royal treatment whenever you choose Advanced Lipo Centre!

With the constant bombardment of slim and toned celebrity images in the media, it’s easy to see why some people might feel secure about their stomach. From seeing pop stars frolicking on the beach to the latest trend of posting gym selfies on social media, the public constantly sees images of these honed and toned stars, and believes that their own stomachs can’t measure up.

Though many of us don’t expose our stomachs very often (especially living in Britain with its unpredictable weather), the shape of our abdomen affects how our clothes fit us. They affect what type of clothes we can wear – men feel reluctant to opt for slim-fit shirts if they have a slight paunch, while women avoid stylish high-waisted pencil skirts for fear of their ‘mummy tummy’ become apparent.

What can I do if I’m insecure about my stomach?

Luckily, there’s a solution. Getting Vaser liposuction on your abs and stomach region is an ideal way to slim down and achieve wonderful definition. Now men and women can flash the flesh on their summer holidays, they can wear slim-fitting clothing and revealing crop tops, as well as feeling generally comfortable in their own skin – all thanks to Vaser.

How does Vaser Lipo work?

Vaser abs liposuction uses ultrasound energy to liquidize the fat inside the body, before insert tiny little cannulas to drain off the fluid. This means that, unlike traditional liposuction, there won’t be any nasty scarring or droopy skin after the procedure. Vaser is minimally invasive, and the recovery times are excellent – you can walk out of the clinic just a few hours after the procedure takes place, and bruising and swelling will be kept to a minimum.

The results

Vaser is so fast and effective, you’ll see almost instantaneous results. Your flat stomach will be evident as soon as the procedure is over, and you’ll be able to show it off almost as soon as you leave the clinic. There’ll be barely any bruising or swelling – a small amount is to be expected, but recovery times take just a few days.

The best part is, you’ll continue to see results for the next few weeks! The ultrasound energy will continue to break down fat within the targeted area, and your body will naturally get rid of the liquid as it happens. Your results may be impressive when you walk out of the clinic – but just give it a few weeks and prepare to be truly amazed by your new flat abs!

The steady rise of the phrase ‘bingo wings’ in our common vernacular has made a generation of men and women worry about how streamlined their arms are. And with celebrities like Rihanna and Ryan Gosling showing off their honed biceps and triceps at every chance, it’s little wonder thousands of people are turning to liposuction in order to get that defined, toned look.

What are my options?

Those who feel uncomfortable exposing their arms to the world have a few different options. They can invest in an array of sensible cardigans and jackets and never showcase their skin again – and this is the route many people do take. But here at Advanced Lipo Centre, we want people to feel happy and comfortable with their own body.

We don’t want you covering up your insecurities – we want to rid you of them.

The second option is traditional liposuction – but this is often not an option for those who need to use their arms as part of their job. Traditional liposuction requires quite a long period of recovery, and exercise is off the cards for weeks, or even months. Those who rely on their arms as part of their career will find it hard to justify the cost of the procedure, and the cost of taking so much time off work.

And the third option…?

The third option, of course, is Vaser liposuction. Getting Vaser liposuction on your arms is simple and easy – you can walk out of the clinic within a matter of hours, and return to work just a few days later. The process is gentle and non-invasive – the only incisions we’ll make will be a few millimetres here and there, with tiny cannulas to drain off the upper-arm fat.

Vaser liposuction is highly precise – not only can it smooth out the lumps and bumps on your upper arms, it can give you the definition you’ve always dreamed of. Men – that means you too! If you’ve ever wished for rippling biceps or muscular triceps, we can create that toned and muscular look using our advanced Vaser liposuction solutions.

Vaser Liposuction Results

Just hours after your Vaser procedure, you’ll see results. You could walk out of our clinic wearing a vest and show off your new, slimline arms to everyone you see! The nature of Vaser also means that some of the fat in the area will continue to break down for a few days after the procedure, with the body excreting it naturally. You could be thrilled with the results of your Vaser procedure, only to look in the mirror two weeks later and find that your arms have improved even further!

When most people think of area’s they’d like to get liposuction, they think of stomachs, inner thighs and the dreaded ‘bingo wings’ on their upper arms. But liposuction techniques nowadays are so subtle and targeting, there are no limits to the places you can sculpt with the help of this method. Check out our top five vaser lipo hotspots that you’ve never considered before…

Your jawline and neck

It’s said that one of the first signs of ageing for both men and women is the dreaded ‘jowl’. Fatty deposits on the face can cause a double chin that looks dreadful on photos, and the weight of the fat can bring the whole face down with it, for a less taut look. By opting for Vaser liposuction on the face, you can slim your neck and jawline down entirely, for a look that could take years off.

Your breasts

Many women nowadays have considered a surgical breast reduction – it slims down the silhouette and can make women look trimmer all over. But with the prospect of scarring and long recovery times, it’s something that most ladies have put out of their minds. Not anymore! Gentle liposuction around this area can subtly reshape the breasts without leaving scars, for a silhouette that is svelte and slim, and no extensive recovery time.

Your back

This goes for both men and women – when summer rolls around, many people dread making an outing in their vests or strappy tops, because of the dreaded ‘back fat’. Liposuction can be used to target this area and slim it down entirely, so you can wear your skimpy tops with pride.

Your ankles

This one might sound odd, but bear with us! Many women, especially after having children, suffer from what’s commonly known as ‘cankles’. This is when the distinction between the calf and the ankle becomes blurred – it can make the legs appear shorter, as opposed to the gentle and elegant curve between ankle and calf that many women aspire to. A little liposuction around this area can make the leg appear more graceful and shapely – perfect for ladies that spend their lives in pencil skirts.

Your chest

Men, this one is just for you. A surprisingly large number of men suffer from the appearance of breasts, which can be very embarrassing for them. They can also be difficult to lose with exercise – thus many men turn to liposuction to give them to more muscular and macho chest they’ve always dreamed of. It’s not just the ladies that can use liposuction to give them a breast reduction or reshape!

Liposuction and gastric bands are two surgical procedures which are aimed at sculpting the body and aiding weight loss – but that’s where the comparison ends. The Vaser liposuction procedure and the installation of a gastric band couldn’t be more different, but many people hover between the two as they struggle to decide which procedure would suit them best. Let’s take a look at both of the techniques, and examine the benefits of each.

Gastric bands

A gastric band is a silicone device which is placed around the upper section of the stomach, effectively squeezing the space where food is stored and restricting the amount of food someone can eat without feeling uncomfortably full. Normally reserved for the morbidly obese, the last few years have seen more people than ever resort to gastric bands as a method of weight loss, even if they’re not in danger because of their weight.

The benefits of gastric banding are clear – it aids weight loss all over the body, not just in one site. But for those who want to target a specific area, the gastric band is not the correct option.

The process of inserting a gastric band is fairly intensive, and involves a complex surgical procedure where the patient will need to undergo general anaesthetic. Most people are well enough to leave the clinic or hospital within twenty-four hours of their gastric band surgery, but it can take up to six weeks for patients to be able to resume normal activity like exercising.

Liposuction

Less dangerous, more targeted, more affordable and less invasive – the Vaser liposuction procedure is a body reshaping procedure, rather than a weight loss method. It is often chosen for more cosmetic reasons, rather than reasons of overall health, and it’s great for reducing or removing stubborn areas of fat that don’t seem to have been affected by exercise or dieting.

Modern developments in liposuction mean that only local anaesthetic is required in many cases – some don’t need to undergo anaesthetic at all. The Vaser liposuction procedure is a relatively new development in the field – it uses ultrasound energy to break up fat in the body, before using gentle suction to remove it safely. This less invasive technique means less healing time, and the more targeting approach means that problem areas like inner thighs, ‘bingo wings’ and ‘mummy tummies’ can be taken care of with ease.

Patients opting for liposuction are reminded that putting on weight can reverse the effects of liposuction, so it’s recommended that they implement some form of exercise or healthy eating regimen in order to keep their body toned and sculpted long after the procedure.

The conclusion

Many people class liposuction and gastric banding within the same ‘weight loss procedure’ category – but in actual fact, the two procedures achieve totally different results. For a more intensive treatment that facilitates all-over weight loss, the gastric band is the right option. But for cosmetic overhauls, targeting problem areas and much lower recovery times, liposuction wins out.

Even the rich and famous have body insecurities – and theirs are often magnified when followed by press and paparazzi on a regular basis. It’s little wonder that many celebrities turn to cosmetic surgery and other procedures in order to make sure they’re looking their best at all times – here’s our rundown of five celebs that have had successful liposuction and are looking just fab for it.

Demi Moore

The gorgeous Ghost actress is renowned for looking years younger than her age – it’s largely down to a strict fitness and dieting regime, but Ms Moore can also credit her stunning looks to liposuction. We’ve all seen her liposuction before and after pictures and she looks seriously incredible. The starlet is rumoured to have had liposuction on her stomach and her inner and outer hips – she’s even thought to be considering lipo just above her knee to preserve her youthful pins. Go Demi!

Sharon Osborne

The matriarch of the Osborne clan has been totally open about her love of going under the knife – and she looks totally fabulous for it. Sharon’s been upfront about having liposuction in her neck, arms and buttocks to retain her youthful looks, which is crucial when judging on TV and attending high-profile red carpet events as often as Sharon does.

Kim Kardashian

Though Kim herself has never confirmed that she has undergone liposuction, various friends, sources and experts say the Queen of Reality TV is in fact a cosmetic surgery fan. Her famous derriere is rumoured to be the result of liposuction, where the doctor removed fat from Kim’s thighs and repositioned it into her buttocks. Perhaps one of the more hilarious rumours about Kim K is that she underwent liposuction on her toes before she married Kanye West, in order to ensure she could fit into the pointiest and most stylish designer shoes. Each to their own!

Jane Fonda

Even the queen of the exercise video needs some help to stave off the signs of ageing. Oscar winner Jane Fonda has admitted to having chin liposuction in order to retain her youthful appearance – and we have to say it’s worked wonderfully! Ms Fonda doesn’t tend to take shortcuts when it comes to her health and appearance – her aerobic videos and her general healthy lifestyle have helped her to stay in shape much of her life – but this case study shows that even the trimmest and most in-shape individuals need a little help sometimes.

Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson

There’s a shocker! The former professional wrestler turned Hollywood actor, Dwayne Johnson, underwent a male breast reduction with liposuction in order to achieve a slimmer looking physique. As a wrestler, it was part of ‘The Rock’s’ role to appear as hulking and huge as possible, but when he started to be cast in Hollywood blockbusters, Mr Johnson decided to have liposuction in order to slim down.
